How to run Snapchat on a rooted Android

Many Android users who are new to the world of rooting may be surprised to see a handful of apps suddenly stop working, including Snapchat, when on a rooted device. I’m here to tell you that there are some methods to bypass the root detection methods of these apps.

Personally, I’m not a fan of apps like » share your selfies with cute dog ear stickers on your head around the world», but Snapchat is wildly popular for one reason or another – I recently found out that my 54-year-old mother uses it, so I decided to give it a try. Of course, since I’m a rooted user, I couldn’t create an account, so I enabled a few things to get past root detection and now I’ll share my steps with you today.

Requirements:

  • A rooted phone (otherwise why are you here?)
  • Xposed Framework ( see also: How to fully theming android with compound modules )

The first thing you’ll want to do is install the Marco Xposido on your device. There are different versions of the Xposed Framework depending on your version of Android. Follow the Appeal guide for “How to Fully Theme Android with Xposed Modules” for complete instructions on installing the Xposed Framework and the module installation manager.

Once you have launched Xposed on your phone, enter the Xposed Installer application, press the menu button in the upper left corner and click “Download”. Now look for a module called “Rootcloak”. Download the latest stable version in the “Versions” menu.

When you finish downloading and installing it, you will find it in the “Modules” menu of the Xposed Installer.

Press the checkbox to activate it and then restart the phone. When your phone finishes rebooting, go back to Xposed> Modules and hit the RootCloak module ( not the checkbox) to launch it.

Inside RootCloak, press the top button «Add / Remove applications», and then press the + sign in the upper right corner. It will present you with all the apps on your device, so scroll through it until you find Snapchat, and tap to add it to the list of apps that Rootcloak will hide from root detection methods.

Exit Rootcloak and launch Snapchat, you should now be able to login or create an account successfully! This method should work with just about any other root-detecting app, except for things like Google Pay.
