Why your Nexus 5X, 6P does not turn on and the solution (Update)

The Huawei Nexus 6P and LG Nexus 5X phones had a widespread flaw among many users. It consisted of generating errors and system crashes. The most fatal made the device not turn on . That is, it does not go beyond the Google screen , it restarts without stopping and it does not turn on normally. Basically, it doesn’t get past the power-up animation or stay in a bootloop . Apparently, the flaw has finally been found, and also its solution.

Bootloop on Nexus 5X and 6P is due to faster CPU cores

LG Nexus 5X and Huawei Nexus 6P

The problem is the CPU of these computers. That is, the Qualcomm Snapdragon 810 and 808. Specifically, it is the high-performance cores of these processors that cause these device failures.

The solution has been to disable these troublesome CPU cores. The person who has found this fix has confirmed that it works on the Nexus 6P and several users who have tried the solution have confirmed it. The same medicine has been applied to the Nexus 5X and has had the same result.

The procedure basically consists of copying a file to the phone, which contains the necessary code that disables the high performance cores in the processor.

Effectively, the solution can revive these devices. But there is a downside. The phone will run a little slow, since not all CPU cores will be activated. The positive thing about this, beyond being able to use the mobile again, is that it will generate less energy consumption and the battery will last longer.

How to fix boot failure on Nexus 5X and 6P

The fundamental requirement is that the device has the bootloader unlocked. The procedure basically consists of flashing the corresponding file N2G48B_4cores.img for the Nexus 6P and N2G47Z_4cores.img for the Nexus 5X. Flashing is done with the text command fastboot flash boot XXXXXX_4Cores.img , which is sent from the PC using the fastboot tool, which can be downloaded from here. On this page they explain the more detailed procedure, for the Nexus 6P (but it will be similar for the 5X).

The compatible TWRP recovery is also offered on the same pages indicated after this change. And a kernel is offered to make the device faster, depending on the person behind this solution. These two things are optional only. Are not necessary.

Please note that by doing this all data on the device will be erased.

This is probably also the problem of the LG G4 and V20, which also have the Snapdragon 808 processor. In this case, alternative solutions have also been chosen, which have worked for some users.

Update April 11, 2019 : Due to a lawsuit that Google and Huawei received in the United States, both companies have agreed to pay users of the defective Nexus 6P up to $ 400, as long as they present the proper documentation of the serious failure. If not, it could be up to $ 75 (Via Reddit). Note that this would only apply to affected users in the United States. It was in this same country where the lawsuit against LG was also successful due to a similar problem with several of its devices, including the Nexus 5X.
