Samsung manufactures several lines, ranges or series of devices that differ from each other in several ways. The most popular lines of Samsung models in terms of cell phones are the Galaxy S, Galaxy A, Galaxy J (which has just been discontinued) and the recent Galaxy M. Differences between the main Samsung phones

Previously it was very simple to differentiate the models: S> A> J. That is, in the highest range were the best and most complete Samsung S, somewhere in the middle the Samsung A, and in the low range the Samsung J. Obviously, In that same order was the price range of each model or series.

With the recent cancellation of the J series and the introduction of the M series , Samsung has restructured its device lines. For example, the S series is the most expensive because it has a slimmer and more elegant design, as well as more power (technical specifications), screen and camera. A Samsung A or M and even the extinct J series, already has a lower finish and all its technical characteristics reduced compared to the S. 

Before going to the comparison, keep in mind that you always have to compare apples to apples. In other words, contemporary devices or devices from the same year. If they are from different generations, we are no longer talking about a fair comparison.

What is better?

Possibly a Samsung Galaxy S.

For starters, the Galaxy S line is Samsung’s top smartphone. It has the latest and best in technology and specifications, so you get the best performance and speed possible, in addition to the best camera and screen quality if we talk exclusively about the Samsung brand. You’ll also have good battery capacity and a premium design and build. 

The Galaxy S currently have 2K resolution and the most powerful mobile processor on the market (for example, in this 2019 the Galaxy S10 carries the Snapdragon 855), in addition to at least 6 GB of RAM. A better processor and RAM means greater speed and fluidity of a device.

In addition to hardware, the software or system of a Galaxy S can also bring exclusive functions that other inferior lines of Samsung may not have. Software updates are a priority for these teams as well.

As is evident, its cost is quite high. Currently, Galaxy S series teams typically have a launch price of around $ 800 minimum.

Series S vs. A, M

It is speculated that Samsung’s A series will be numbered like this: A10, A20, A30, A40, A50, A60, A70, A80, A90 (we already have several of these models on the market). The higher the number, the better the phone.

In the case of the M series, we could have something similar, since we already have the M10, M20 and M30 models for sale. Similarly here, the higher the number the better the cell phone.

Both device lines, A and M, are on the same rung, but below the Galaxy S line. They are their younger siblings. For example, in the most basic models A and M (of lesser number) you will see a plastic finish (vs. metal and glass that comes in the Galaxy S).

As for software, the situation is similar. The Galaxy S always get the update before the A or M series, for at least two years.

If you can’t afford a Galaxy S but are looking for the best possible Samsung experience, you should think of a Galaxy A80, which is what comes closest to it. You will see some reduced things, such as a Snapdragon 700 processor or a Full HD screen in this 2019, but in other specifications it could be equal to equal. Samsung even tends to experiment with innovations in this model, such as the rotary camera that brings the current A80.

The Galaxy A and M line has a launch price of around $ 200 at least for lower numbers. In addition to its price, the other advantage of these equipment is its large battery, which may even be higher than that of the Galaxy S. On the other hand, although the A and M series are similar, they have their peculiarities. For example, you can see a better screen and software in the A series, while in the M a better battery and RAM. We recommend consulting the specifications in both series before deciding.

S vs J

Galaxy J devices were Samsung’s cheapest range, compared to the S which is the most expensive.

That of “economic” was really only appreciated in the specifications, because its price was high compared to the competition. Perhaps that was one of the reasons why Samsung decided to remove this line.

This is very different from Samsung’s S series, which is still stronger than ever and is among the best-selling premium devices in the world.

Samsung A vs. J

As noted, the J series has disappeared, and the successor devices are the lower numbers for the A and M series, which are much more attractive in price. That is, it will be in your pocket to find a current model of A or M, and omit any model J.

Other Samsung series or models

The S, A and M series are Samsung’s most popular smartphones, but not the only ones. First of all, whatever Samsung cell phone you buy, J, A, M or S, any one is guaranteed in terms of durability and performance. Samsung is a brand with a huge reputation that makes good or reliable equipment, in any of these ranges. All are trained to perform the same functions as any smartphone: communications, multimedia, apps, etc.

The main difference between series, in addition to the finishes, is the power, so to speak. What makes the most expensive equipment stand out is that they are going to offer you a more “OPTIMAL” experience and of higher quality or capacity. It all depends on your budget. The more money you invest, the better your camera, screen and overall experience will be.
