Advances in technology have enabled us to communicate with people around the world today through devices that fit in the palm of our hands. Despite the fact that WhatsApp is a very popular application and its use is widespread, some users have chosen to use Telegram , since it offers different functions and some of them very interesting. But is Telegram or WhatsApp better ?
You may have asked yourself this question and you are one of those who thinks that the best application is the one with the largest number of users, that is, WhatsApp with 1,500 billion active users, well above Telegram with only 180 million.
However, both applications were born with the same purpose, to be an instant messaging service and therefore offer more or less the same. But there are differences between Telegram and WhatsApp , with respect to their functionalities, which help us choose one or the other.

What are the differences between Telegram and WhatsApp?
Ultimately, determining which messaging app is best is your decision, based on your needs. However, we are going to tell you what are the main differences between WhatsApp and Telegram to facilitate the task.
Group chats
The most significant difference between these apps is related to group chats . In Telegram, you can create groups of up to 100,000 members, compared to the 256 that WhatsApp allows. This is one of the advantages of Telegram , which allows us to manage and control massive groups .
Secret chats
Other interesting and exclusive features of Telegram are secret chats , also called ephemeral. These have the incredible ability to self-destruct and remove themselves after a certain period of time (from 1 second to 1 week). You decide when!
Themes & Wallpaper
Green is a hallmark of WhatsApp but blue does not have to be Telegram. This allows you to customize the application with the colors and themes that you like the most. While in WhatsApp, you can only change the wallpaper of a chat.
Video calls vs. Video messages
But if there is something that WhatsApp can be proud of, it is video calls , which are not yet available on Telegram, as well as featured messages . In fact, it is one of the few messaging apps that still does not have them, although to compensate it has video messages , similar to Whatspp voice notes but with an image.
Condition
As for the states, Telegram still preserves the states with text as in the origins of WhatsApp. Now, those of WhatsApp are ephemeral images that last 24 hours (you can include text).
Backups
One of the biggest advantages of WhatsApp over Telegram is that it has its own backup system for your conversations . You can choose whether to do them automatically or not. These are saved in the cloud, through Google Drive on Android and iCloud on iOS. Telegram has its own cloud so that you never lose what you say, but if you want to save something in particular, you will have to send a message to yourself .
In either of the two applications we can share photos, documents and location. For example, Telegram allows you to share any type of file regardless of its format or extension. But WhatsApp goes a step further by allowing filters to be applied to photos .
Mobile and web compatibility
Both apps are available for the major mobile operating systems, but there are differences on the desktop platform. While Telegram has a complete open source application , WhatsApp has its web version for the browser or installable on Windows and Mac.
Using the app
As you already know, WhatsApp depends on a mobile SIM and the only way to add a contact is through their phone number. Telegram is more flexible. It can be used by SIM card but it is not necessary.
Choose Telegram or WhatsApp?
Beyond whether one application or another is better, the most important thing is that it suits your needs.
To this day, it seems impossible to live without WhatsApp , a service that does not pretend to be more than a means of personal communication, to talk between friends, work colleagues, classmates or family.
However, Telegram is much more versatile , offers more possibilities than WhatsApp and without depending on the mobile, although it is less popular and is not as established or standardized.
What do you think? Are you more of WhatsApp? Or Telegram? What application do you like the most?
