If you get the error “Windows does not recognize the device” when connecting the Motorola device to the PC using the USB cable, the driver for that mobile phone is probably not installed on the computer. Among other things, this will prevent sending ADB commands to the cell phone.
Download Motorola software with all drivers
Currently, drivers USB or ADB ( motorola ADB interface ) for Motorola devices, including the Moto G, X and E, are tucked within the program Motorola Device Manager . Therefore, to install the drivers, you must install this program on the computer.
- Download Motorola Device Manager from the official Motorola site.
- Double-click the downloaded .EXE file and follow the installation steps.
- Restart the PC.
It is recommended to install with the Motorola device disconnected from the computer. After restarting the computer, the drivers will be correctly installed and the PC will already recognize the Motorola cell phone when connecting it. Finally you can work between both, for example sending commands through ADB.
Tip 1 : Make sure the USB cable is in perfect condition for a successful connection. An apparently good, bad cable could charge a device when connected to the PC (or at least reflect this on the Android battery indicator), but still not establish a “data connection.” A “USB connection” notification should appear on the phone to know that the cable is fine.
Tip 2 : If the ADB tool is used and an “unauthorized” warning appears or the commands are rejected or do not run successfully, a small “USB Debugging” or “Fingerprint” window will probably be pending on the cell phone than Accept. It may be necessary to go to the Device Settings, “Developer” (or “Developer”) option and verify that the “USB Debugging” option is enabled.
Motorola drivers from other sources
Currently you cannot install Motorola drivers without installing Motorola Device Manager. On some websites these drivers may be offered individually or even as part of a universal package, but unless you trust the website, it is not recommended to download them for security reasons against possible virus or malware threats. It may be possible to unpack or extract these drivers from the Motorola software (as it seems to have been done here to get the Motorola Moto G drivers), but this is another matter.
