One of the measures taken by the Government to promote energy saving has been to offer free passes for people who use the train on a regular basis. But still many users do not know how to get the free season ticket in the Renfe Cercanías app .
Although in principle we can purchase this season ticket until the end of the year, Renfe has communicated on its official website the recommendation to purchase said season tickets before September 5 , since as it is the first Monday after the holidays, the increase in passengers may imply a saturation of the system. Therefore, to prevent you from encountering problems, we are going to explain the steps to follow.
REQUIREMENTS TO ACQUIRE THE FREE CERCANÍAS RENFE SEASON TICKET
In principle, there are no special requirements to be able to acquire the free Cercanías Renfe season ticket . It is not necessary to have a minimum or maximum age, nor certain income levels. You just have to register in the app and purchase your subscription without having to pay.
You should bear in mind that this is a measure aimed at those who take the train on a regular basis. To do this, when purchasing your season ticket you must leave a deposit of 10 euros. In the event that between now and December 31 you have made at least 16 trips on the suburban train network, this deposit will be returned to you. Otherwise, you will not be able to recover the money and you will have paid those 10 euros for your subscription.
In addition, the subscriptions will be valid only in a suburban nucleus , so you will not be able to use them when you go on vacation.
HOW TO ACQUIRE THE SEASON TICKET IN THE RENFE CERCANÍAS APP
The steps you must take to obtain the free season ticket through the Renfe Cercanías application are as follows:
- Download the Renfe Cercanías app in your app store
- Select your neighborhood center
- Pull down the menu and select the Buy Tickets option
- Choose the Buy option
- Select your usual station of origin/destination
- In the Select a rate dropdown menu, choose Ab. Recurrent
- Enter the data to register in the system. If you are already registered, you do not need to carry out this step and you can continue with your purchase process.
- A QR code will be generated that you can find in the menu Buy tickets-My tickets
If you are not a user of the Renfe Cercanías app, you also have other options to purchase your free season ticket. You can do it from the Renfe app or general website. And you can also buy it at the ticket office of the station where you usually take the train. But this last option is the least recommended if you manage well with your mobile, since you could find queues that slow down the process.
I ALREADY HAVE MY SUBSCRIPTION, WHAT DO I DO NOW?
Once you have the QR code of your free pass downloaded on your smartphone, the process you will have to follow to get on the train without having to buy another pass will depend on the place where you purchased it . So what you have to do now will depend on where you live.
The hubs of Madrid, Malaga, Murcia/Alicante and Zaragoza have direct readers of the QR code, so you can scan it directly from your smartphone to get on the train. On the other hand, in San Sebastián, Bilbao, Seville, València and Rodalies Catalunya you must obtain a physical pass , free of charge, at the self-service machines at the stations, something that we recommend you do as soon as possible.
It is also important that we bear in mind that in the Métrico, Asturias and Santander hubs the sale of season tickets is not enabled through the app, so if you want your free season ticket you will have to buy it at the vending machines or at the station ticket office.
