Google Voice Search is a powerful utility on Android devices that allows you to perform interesting actions, such as making a call, sending an SMS or creating a reminder, using a simple voice command. But, before you can do this you first have to wake up to Voice Search. Manually, what you do is open the Google search application and tap on the microphone that appears in the upper right. But this can also be done automatically, through a voice command: the «OK Google» command (oquei gugol).
On the Motorola Moto G (and probably on other Android devices), the option to wake up to voice search with the OK Google command does not work by default. To make it work it is necessary to change the configuration of this utility to English, which is the only language supported right now.
How to enable OK Google detection
In the app drawer, tap on Google Settings . Inside, choose Google Search and Google Now and then Voice .
On the next screen choose Language > English … > English (US) . US English is chosen because at the moment it is the only supported English dialect . You can also choose Spanish language, as it is already supported.
To verify that this functionality is activated, return to the Voice screen and tap on the new Keyword Detection option “OK Google” that should be available after done. On the next screen, verify that the switch is activated (in blue color).
When you open the Google search application, the OK Google voice command (“okei gugol”) should now wake up Voice Search and make you ready to receive voice commands, without the need to manually press the microphone at the top right .
In addition to enabling OK Google in voice search, it is also highly recommended to activate Google Now on the Moto G (which is disabled by default). This is because some commands require Google Now to be performed (for example, create reminders).
Optionally you can install the Nova Launcher application (available free in the Play Store), one of the few OK Google launchers that allows you to wake up Voice Search directly from the home screen and from the application drawer, without having to open the search application of Google. For this, you must previously activate this functionality in Nova Launcher, from Nova Settings > OK Google , and activate the box that says Keyword OK Google . This functionality is only supported on the Motorola Moto G and other Android devices with a processor that supports it (such as the Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 or higher), but it can also be obtained on any Android Jelly Bean or higher thanks to the Open Mic app.
