If you see the message Network blocked by inserted SIM card or something similar, it is basically because you put a SIM from an invalid network on your Samsung phone. We explain the cause of this problem, how to prevent it from happening and how to fix it.
In 2013, Samsung implemented a software system that locks your Samsung Galaxy devices when they are powered on with an inserted SIM card that is from a different region than the device is intended for.
However, this does NOT mean that you cannot buy a Samsung phone in Europe and use it in America or vice versa. There is a trick to avoid being a victim of this regional blockade . And if it is too late for you, Samsung could help you with the blocked SIM card notice .
Network blocked by inserting invalid SIM
American SIM card only : This product is only compatible with SIM cards issued by mobile operators in the Americas (North, South, Central and Caribbean America).
If your cell phone has the American SIM card only label on the box , it means that you must use a SIM from American operators (any country in the American continent). The device will be blocked if it is turned on with a SIM card from an operator that does not belong to this region.
The legend European Model or European SIM card only means that the phone is only compatible or must be unlocked with a European SIM card.
The idea is the same if you have the European SIM card only sticker . You should only use a SIM card from an operator in any country in Europe to prevent the cell phone from being blocked by the network.
In case of being blocked, you must insert a network unlock PIN, as seen in the video below.
Samsung stated that this SIM card-based network lock will be present on all devices manufactured from July 2013 onward, containing the sticker illustrated above. That includes the Samsung Galaxy S series, J, Note, etc.
How to avoid network blocking
The trick is to use a compatible SIM card (from the indicated region) the first time the phone is turned on. What you have to do is call for at least 5 minutes with that SIM. They can be one or multiple calls that achieve this period of time.
In this way, the network blocking system is permanently removed from the device and the SIM from any other region can be used without fear of being blocked. The key is to use the correct SIM the first time the device is turned on and do the indicated procedure.
What do I do if the SIM card has been blocked by network
If you have been left on the screen with the message SIM card blocked by network inserted , there is still a solution.
You can contact the Samsung subsidiary of the country where you bought the phone by email. For example, this user purchased equipment in Spain for use in Argentina, and the advisor instructs him to contact Samsung Spain to lift the block, explaining the exact information that he must provide. What you will need is the invoice and the purchase information. It is possible that some official Samsung store or service in your area can also help you with this management.
