Sony is familiar with strange names, and the manufacturer’s new top smartphone is no exception: it bears the name Xperia 1 II, pronounced 1 Mark 2. Behind the name is a smartphone that shares some trends with high- End devices breaks – fortunately: it comes with a headphone jack and microSD compartment. Sony has also improved in comparison to its predecessor, the manufacturer sticks to the display in 21: 9 format.
Against the trend
With Samsung, one of the last remaining manufacturers has deleted the headphone jack for its top smartphones ( Note 10 & S20 ), Sony does it the other way round: the jack that was still missing from the predecessor is returning. Another point of criticism of the Xperia 1 has been erased by Sony: The device understands a 1200 Euro smartphone for wireless charging.
The Xperia 1 II is a bit more angular than its predecessor and optically more subtle than the competition with its curved borderless displays, notches, pop-up cameras and Co. The front camera sits in the narrow edge of the case. The triple camera on the back is said to have significantly developed further. Above all, it should be characterized by speed. The main camera calculates the auto focus up to 60 times per second, and up to 20 photos are possible within one second – in full resolution.
The wide-angle main camera (12 MP, 24mm focal length according to 35mm, aperture f / 1.7) is made up of an ultra-wide angle (12 MP, 16mm, f / 2.2) and a camera with almost three times the optical magnification (12 MP, 70mm , f / 2.4) flanked. The sensor of the main camera has grown to 1 / 1.7 inches (Xperia 1: 1 / 2.6 inches), but Sony did not provide more detailed information about the sensor on request. The photo app now offers significantly more options for image design – it is based on the successful Cinema Pro app of the predecessor . This app for video recording can also be found on the Xperia 1 II.
Top equipped
What remains is the 6.5-inch OLED in 21: 9 format, as with its predecessor, Sony speaks of 4K resolution. In fact, it should be 3840 x 1644 pixels, or in other words: crisp 642 dpi. Sony does not follow the trend towards the 90 or 120 Hz display , instead the software is supposed to ensure a particularly smooth display and so on the 60 Hz panel to create the illusion of a 90 Hz display.
The Xperia 1 II is equipped with Qualcomm’s top SoC Snapdragon 865 and masters 5G. The 256 GB flash can be expanded using a microSD card, the 4000 mAh battery is 50 percent full after 30 minutes at the socket, according to Sony, using a 21 watt PowerDelivery. The device is protected against water and dust in accordance with IP65 / 68. It should come on the market in June and cost 1200 euros.
New middle class

The refreshed mid-range Xperia 10 II model costs less than a third (370 euros). Typical for Sony, its OLED content is also shown in the elongated 21: 9 format. With 6 inches, the device remains significantly more compact.
Compared to the predecessor Xperia 10 , where Sony used an LCD, the housing of the 10 II has also been further developed: It now consists of Gorilla Glass 6 and no longer made of plastic. Unusual in this price range: It is protected against the ingress of dust and water in accordance with IP65 / 68. Sony has also given the 10 II a triple cam, consisting of an ultra wide-angle (8 MP, f / 2.2), wide-angle (12 MP, f2) and two-fold (8 MP, f / 2.4). The smartphone is powered by a Snapdragon 665, the 128 GB flash can be expanded using a microSD card and a jack socket is also included. Like the more expensive sister model, the Xperia 10 II should be available around June. ( rbr ) Read comments ( 32 )Go to homepage
