Google Pixel 6 fingerprint scanner slows down? This is not a bug, but a feature

Pixel

Either it is already a tradition to play the game “find the flaws of the new flagship”, or the Pixel 6 really has enough bugs that they are being talked about more and more. Either games crash, then there are problems with the camera, or the fingerprint scanner does not work as it should (or does not work at all). One could read the news, close one’s eyes and move on, but it would be too easy, given all the peculiarities of this situation. Google itself agrees that the fingerprint scanner in its new phone is slow, but is in a hurry to reassure everyone, stating that it should be. It is difficult to immediately understand what it is about, so let’s look at the situation and understand whether it is worth worrying or it is better to immediately abandon the thought of buying this phone.

The main thing is to say that a badly working gadget should work like that, and everything will be fine.

The main disadvantage of the Google Pixel 6

Ask Pixel 6 owners about the main flaw of their phones and they will most likely point to a slow and finicky fingerprint sensor. This is really a problem and very annoying when you put your finger on and it doesn’t work. Those who have switched to the Pixel 6 from OnePlus or OPPO, on which everything works instantly, will be especially uncomfortable. Sometimes it even seems that the finger has not yet managed to bring it up, and the phone is unlocked.

It turns out that there is a reason for such suffering of users and this is not an explanation of experts or popular rumor, but the answer of Google itself. The company informs users that the Pixel 6’s fingerprint scanner uses “improved security algorithms” which may either take longer to verify your data or require better contact with the sensor.

Fingerprint scanner reliability

Personally, in this place, a slight grimace of disbelief appeared on my face. Were the fingerprint scanners really so bad that they needed to be improved in such a strange way? Everyone uses their phones and no one complains that their gadgets have turned into a walkway. Moreover, no one says that it is necessary to make the scanner more demanding on the print. But this is my opinion. You can, as usual, express yours in our Telegram chat or in the comments to this article.

At the presentation, it is rarely said that something has become slower. And tell Google about it then, now it wouldn’t look like an excuse.

Some users speculated that the poor performance could be due to Google’s use of an under-display optical fingerprint reader instead of the ultrasonic sensor found in phones like the Galaxy S21 . However, Reddit users have noted that there are phones with optical sensors that are faster, such as the OnePlus 9. I meant it above when I said that its scanner works instantly.

Therefore, we can say with almost one hundred percent certainty that it is not the hardware that is to blame, but the software of the new phones. But on the other hand, it cannot be ruled out that the display design is simply too poorly made. However, we will find out about this very soon, as soon as the company rolls out the next updates. Either the response rate will be increased, or everything will remain as it is .

The Google Pixel is so beautiful, but as it spreads, the problems get bigger.

How to unlock your phone

Regardless of whether Google can solve the problem and speed up the scanner, users always have an alternative – to enter a password. Face unlock is usually helpful too. It is only now, when in many countries the mandatory wearing of masks is retained, and somewhere it is introduced back after the cancellation, this unlocking method turns out to be inconvenient. It’s also unsafe if you don’t use a depth sensor when unlocking, which the Google Pixel 6 doesn’t have.

Is it possible to trick the face scanning system

Let me remind you that it is very easy to deceive a “scanning” system of a face that does not build a 3D model of a face. All you need to do is use a good mask or photograph. High-level models struggle with this, but there are plenty of examples of such a hack on the web. Therefore, personally, I advise you to be patient and not rush to order the Google Pixel 6. Pretty soon there will be enough information about whether the problem of slow scanning of fingerprints has been solved. Then you can think about buying.
