If you have a smartphone or tablet with Android Q, it is possible to install apps on an SD card instead of the internal memory. For this to work, you must first format your SD card accordingly.
Android Q: This allows the app to be installed on an SD card
In order to install apps directly on an SD card instead of on your Android Q device, it is first necessary to convert the card to internal storage. To do this, open the device’s Settings app and tap on “Storage”.
- Then select the SD card and, if you have not already done so, set it up by clicking on “Setup”.
- If you have already set up your SD card, tap the symbol with the three dots at the top right and select “Settings”.
- In the next window, specify that you want to convert the SD card to internal storage by tapping on “Use as internal storage”.
- Please confirm your selection with “Next” and tap the “Delete and format” button to use the SD card as internal storage.
How to move apps to the SD card of an Android Q device
If you don’t want to format your SD card as internal storage and still store apps on it, you can alternatively move it to the card. To do this, go to “Device”> “Apps” in the device settings and select the app to be moved. Then, under “Storage”> “Used storage”> “Change”, tap on your SD card and select “Move” to change the app storage location.
