Setting up two-factor authentication

Now let’s take a closer look at how to enable two-factor authentication in Yandex services: mail, e-wallet, and others. To do this, you will need two devices at once: a smartphone and a computer (or tablet, laptop, etc.).

1. Let’s start by installing the Yandex.Klyuch mobile application and adding an account. You can download the application in the Google Play and App Store catalogs. After installation, you will be asked to add a profile, but do not proceed to this step yet.
   
2. On a PC or laptop (preferably your personal one, on which you constantly work) open “Yandex. Passport”. If you have never seen this section before, then first go to the mail and look in the right corner where your photo (or the picture replacing it) is shown. Click on it and select “Account Management” – you will be on the desired page.
3. Under the heading “Passwords and Authorization”, you are immediately prompted to set up two-factor authentication. Click on this link.
4. At this stage, confirmation of the phone number is required: by default, you will be sent an SMS to the SIM card that you specified when registering with Yandex. Check the set of numbers carefully and make sure everything matches.
   
5. Click the “Get Code” button.
6. Read the text message on your smartphone and write the content in the window that appears on your PC, click “Confirm”.
7. It’s time to create a PIN for the mobile app. It uses only numbers, they have to be memorized by heart, so think about which combination you can never forget.
8. After you have completed the settings, a QR code should appear on the “Passports” page. Go back to the Key app on your phone and click Add Account.
9. Point your smartphone camera at the QR code or click “Show Key” and enter it into the form on the mobile application. Then drive in the invented PIN-code there to synchronize the devices.
   
10. Look at the PC screen again and agree to “Proceed to the next step.” Now you need to enter a password for the Yandex. Key ”, which was displayed on the display of your mobile after dialing the PIN-code.
