Messenger from Facebook has been and remains one of the most demanded programs for instant messaging. And not only them: in principle, there are no restrictions on the type of transmitted media, be it text, audio message, photographs, documents or video files. At the same time, there is no separate fee for sending this data. It is not surprising that the number of WhatsApp users has exceeded one billion among the owners of Android smartphones alone.
Of course, the application cannot be called perfect: it also contains bugs, and in terms of functionality, competitors are trying to be one step ahead. But the messenger is developing, adding new functions and gradually getting rid of bugs.
Unchanged, so far, remains the impossibility of binding two accounts to one phone, even if there is a technical possibility for this, that is, the smartphone supports the operation of two SIM-cards. And this flaw is very annoying for many users.

How WhatsApp works on dual SIM phones
There were times when mobile phones could only work with one SIM card. With the massive development of cellular communications and the emergence of intense competition on the market of mobile operators, the possibility of using two SIM-cards on one device looked quite an expected step. But the WhatsApp developers did not take this into account – perhaps they were guided by security considerations … One way or another, even today, regardless of the type of smartphone, only one copy of the messenger can be installed on it. And if there are two SIM cards (and today even three-SIM models have appeared on sale), the owner of the phone will have to choose which number to link the application account to. Usually to the one that is used more often.
In most cases, this does not create any inconvenience, but there are situations when you need to differentiate between communication. This cannot be done by standard means.
But this does not mean that such a possibility is absent in principle. If there is demand, supply will not be long in coming. You can add another account to a second SIM card using special applications from third-party developers and even built-in operating system tools. But it should be noted that these solutions will be different for Android and iOS. Let’s consider both options in more detail.
How to install a second WhatsApp on an Android phone
Of course, the second account can only be discussed if the first is available. If there is one, let’s look at all the options on how to make a second WhatsApp on a smartphone.
Built-in Android capabilities
Many operating systems, including Android, have elementary protection against uncontrolled duplication of information. It’s hard to keep track of duplicate user-generated content, of course, but when it comes to app installs, the OS’s capabilities are great. But some versions of the most common mobile operating system still allow you to install a second absolutely identical version of programs. True, this is done using a special function called “Cloning applications” (or “Clones of software”, sometimes you can find the text “Second space”).
Here is the algorithm for installing the second version of WhatsApp using the MIUI shell of the eighth version of Android:
- go to the phone settings;
- go to the “Applications” section;
- we are looking for the sub-item “Cloning applications” that interests us, click it;
- a list of software that can be cloned will appear. We find WhatsApp in it and activate the toggle switch, after which the installation of the second version of the messenger on your phone will begin.
As a result, a WhatsApp icon will appear on one of the desktops with the note that this is a duplicate of the application. We launch it and go through the standard registration procedure indicating the phone number of the second SIM card.
In other versions of Android, where this function is present, it can be located in a different location (for example, in “Accessibility”) – you just need to look carefully for it in the “Settings” of your smartphone.
Setting a second number in WhatsApp through the Parallel Space application
Now let’s look at how to create two WhatsApp accounts on the same phone using third-party software.
The easiest option, which does not require confirmation or activation of any permissions, is to use the Parallel Space app. It is free and is present on Google Play, can clone almost any application and does it equally well on all Android smartphones.
In order to install 2 WhatsApp on one phone, you need to follow these steps:
- install Parallel Space on your phone;
- launch the application;
- select WhatsApp from the list of programs that can be cloned and click the “Add to ParallelSpace” button;
- the cloning process will begin. After its completion, an icon of the duplicated messenger will appear;
- in the same way, you can make a copy of any other application by clicking the plus sign in the middle.
Now you can close Parallel Space, look for the icon of the second copy of WhatsApp on the desktop, start the messenger and go through the standard registration procedure, specifying as the number for binding the one that belongs to the second SIM card.
How to put WhatsApp on two numbers through the OGWhatsApp app
This app is not listed on Google Play, so you need to take some additional steps to install it:
- select the item “Security” in the smartphone settings;
- click on the “Device Management” sub-item;
- on the page that opens, put a check mark next to the “Unknown sources” parameter.
This will allow you to install applications not downloaded from the official store. If you have done this before, then, of course, you no longer need to perform this procedure.
Now you can start installing the second WhatsApp on Android:
- go to the smartphone settings, select the “Chats” sub-item;
- we perform a backup;
- launch “File Explorer” (depending on the version of Android, it may be called “File Manager” or “File Manager”);
- find the WhatsApp folder, put a check mark on the right, tap on the menu (three vertical dots “and select” Rename “;
- name the folder “WhatsApp old”;
- again go to “Settings”, select the sub-item “Applications, find WhatsApp and click on the” Clear cache “button, and then on the” Delete “button;
- in the “Explorer” we find the “WhatsAppold” folder and rename it to “OGWhatsApp”;
- manually install OGWhatsApp, launch the application, register with the phone number to which WhatsApp was linked earlier;
- download the official version of WhatsApp from the Play Market, install, bind the number from the second SIM card to the messenger.
That is, formally, you get two different applications, although in fact OGWhatsApp is the same WhatsApp.
Through the GBWhatsApp program
The principle of operation is the same as in the case of OGWhatsApp, but everything is done much easier and through the application, you do not need to rename or delete anything on your own – just download the program, install, run and follow the prompts.
Since GBWhatsApp is not represented on Google Play either, you need to download it from trusted sources. The second important point is that after updating the “correct” official version of the messenger, such GBWhatsApp applications may become inoperable – you will have to re-bind the second SIM-card.
App Cloner
Another legal utility that allows you to install two WhatsApps on one smartphone by renaming the messenger and changing its digital signature.
The only negative point is that cloning of many popular applications, including WhatsApp, is carried out only with the paid version of the program.
The procedure itself is in many ways similar to the work of Parallel Space:
- after launching App Cloner, select WhatsApp in the list of applications;
- in order not to confuse a duplicate messenger with the original, you can change its icon;
- to start cloning, tap on the round blue button with a checkmark;
- after completing the procedure, press the “Install application” button.
Launch the second WhatsApp, link it to the second SIM card.
How to install two WhatsApp on iOS
In principle, all iPhone models, with the exception of the XS, are monosyms, so the problem is not so acute here. But if you are the owner of this particular model, then it is also possible to install a second WhatsApp on such an iPhone.
Installing WhatsApp Business
This is a completely legal and completely safe way to have two WhatsApps on one smartphone. The second will be the business version, which in terms of functionality does not differ from the usual messenger.
But at the same time, WhatsApp Business is considered a different application. All you need to do is download the program and bind to the second number during installation.
For this, the offer to use the registered number must be ignored by choosing the option “Use another number”. By the way, the installation of the business version of the application can also be used on Android devices as an alternative to all the options considered.
Through third-party software
There are also options with the use of software from third-party developers. Perhaps the most popular is the TuTu Helper utility.
Let’s see how to use it to install two WhatsApp on one iPhone:
- download the application, install it;
- after starting TuTu Helper, the program will ask you to download the developer’s certificate – we agree;
- go to the smartphone settings;
- select the sub-item “Basic”;
- tap on the link “Device Management”;
- looking for a line starting with “Winner Media”, press the “Trust” button;
- go to TuTu Helper, select WhatsApp ++ in the list of applications, press the Get button;
- after cloning, a duplicate of WhatsApp will appear on the iPhone desktop. You need to go to the settings again, to the “Device Management” sub-item and allow the installation of applications from JiaNaHaiWei;
- we launch the second version of the messenger and register with a binding to the second SIM-card.
Conclusion
We’ve looked at different options for adding WhatsApp to a second phone number. Which one to choose is up to you, each of the methods has its own advantages and disadvantages. If official support is important to you, then you should choose the option with the installation of WhatsApp Business.
