So something happened that many have been waiting for. The company Honor presented its new phone Honor 50 in Mycity. In addition to the unusual design, it received many interesting characteristics and functions. But the most important thing is, of course, the return of Google services without any restrictions. Many of the latest models did not have this opportunity and suffered greatly from this. I have already managed to test the new smartphone in practice and make a first impression of it. Today I will share it with you. Moreover, there really is a story to tell about the new product.

Honor 50 first impression
Let’s omit the details of the box and equipment. Everything here is standard and at a high level, which is typical of Honor products.
Much more interesting was that part of the first impression, which concerns the color of the novelty. The smartphone is available in several versions: midnight black, emerald green, shimmering crystal, mother-of-pearl logo. I got the last one with the letters of the company logo. The bold pattern on the back is not afraid to tell the whole world, “Hey, look! I’m a new Honor phone! ”. There is even something from old school films about the future in this. This appearance looks unusual, attractive, bold and fresh. But if that’s too bright for you, there are calmer colors as well.
This color also gives shades in different lighting conditions.
How Honor 50 shoots
The camera is also striking, and if someone criticizes it, I will only agree with him that it is unusual. Yes, recently several models with a similar solution have appeared on the market, but this is a kind of experiment, and the usual windows are already tired . These two large modules look interesting and attract no less attention than the pattern of the back wall.
The Honor 50’s camera design is quite unusual
There are 4 cameras and a flash in two rings . The top is completely given over to the 108 megapixel main camera. The lower one accommodates three cameras at once – ultra-wide (8 Mp), macro (2 Mp) and a depth sensor (2 Mp). They deserve to be discussed separately. Perhaps we will do this in one of our future articles, but it is already clear that she is shooting just as well as competitors.

The level of detail on all modules corresponds to their level. The color rendition of the main module is more than pleasant, and the telemodule has a slight lack of contrast inherent in them, but to see it, you have to find fault and peer at the pictures.
Separately, I will highlight the curious multi- video function , which allows you to make interesting videos: you can shoot simultaneously with the front and main cameras, as well as with different lenses. This is a very cool solution for those who like to create content for social networks and just keep important moments of their life on video.
Front camera of the new Honor 50
The front of the screen has a rather large hole for the front camera, but it has a resolution of 32 megapixels . I don’t know how she would have shot if it had been smaller, but in this case I have no complaints. The pictures are excellent in almost any conditions – during the day or at night.
The hole is big for my taste, but the image quality is good.
Even in low room lighting, the front camera shoots very well.
Screen up to 120 Hz
By the way, the screen into which the front camera is embedded also deserves praise: OLED with a resolution of 2340 by 1080 pixels , rounded edges and a refresh rate of 120 Hz.
Out of the box, a dynamic mode is included, which allows you to change the refresh rate depending on the conditions of use, and when such a high speed is not needed, it reduces it to 60 Hz . So it turns out to save a little energy, but we will return to autonomy a little later.
The color setting of the screen is pleasant and not aggressive, as is often the case with OLED matrices. But if shades aren’t your thing, then the proprietary deep customization tool is still here. The brightness is so high that even on the street there will be no thoughts that I would like more.
The fingerprint scanner is built into the screen and is fast.
Is it convenient to use a thin phone
Due to the fact that the body is thin in itself, and the screen has rounding, it is very pleasant to hold the smartphone in your hand . It seems that it is much thinner and lighter than it really is. I really like this layout. And yet, on such a sharp edge, the keys feel much more pronounced and responsive than on a flat one.
The slim design makes it comfortable to hold the phone in your hand.
Despite this thickness and weight, there was room in the case for loudspeakers and a fingerprint scanner in the screen . It is responsive and very fast. But there was no place for protection from water. Most likely, there is a certain level of it, but the official protection is not declared.
Honor 50 with Google services
As the operating system out of the box, Android 11 was selected with the Magic UI 4.2 shell applied over it . Of course, it will be updated and the phone will receive newer versions, but you will have to wait a bit. But applications from Google Play can be installed now, and this function will not go anywhere. This is really nice. All branded Google applications and services are also available – Maps, Mail, Assistant and others.

However, there is also a branded Honor Store. Having entered it, you can familiarize yourself with new laptops, watches and other gadgets, as well as buy them.
Honor 50 на Snapdragon 778G
Another highlight for the phone was the return of processors from Qualcomm. This particular phone has a sub-flagship Snapdragon 778G chipset. It will not have the ultimate performance, but it works great and even plays serious games. You can try to imagine the top-end processors of the last year and it will be something similar. The combination of RAM and permanent memory can be selected from three options: 6/128 GB, 8/128 GB and 8/256 GB.
Above, I said that the phone has a quick charger included, and it is based on its own SuperCharge technology. Up to 50% of the phone can be charged in just 10 minutes , and up to 75% – in more than 20 minutes. In this case, the battery capacity is 4300 mAh. But it’s better not to lose the branded adapter. With others (even powerful ones), charging will be much slower.

Overall impression of the Honor 50
Despite the fact that I spent very little time with the Honor 50, I did not leave the feeling that I knew this phone very well. I have always liked the devices of the brand, which I have mentioned more than once earlier in the reviews. This smartphone is made in the best traditions of the old models of the brand, but there is also a lot that is new. It’s nice that the company remains faithful to tradition, but also open to new solutions.
Probably, if you try to find fault and find something that I want to change, then the lack of wireless charging will come first. I got used to using it and immediately noticed that it was not there. But without it, it was possible to maintain a small thickness of the case, and this is already a plus.
Such a phone will definitely attract attention.
Honor is picking up speed again and offering a great device. It seems to me that this is the golden mean. A more powerful processor is not really needed , but with the fact that it is possible to keep the price low.
To the pluses, I also include an unusual version of the body color and an original, but fresh form of the camera. When I share my impressions of the phone, I usually ask myself if I am ready to use it further. Even from good phones, sometimes you want to pull out a SIM card and insert it back into your phone. In the case of the Honor 50, things are a little different. I decided to continue using this phone. At least for now. It is interesting for me to test it in practice more thoroughly. This means, perhaps, I will talk about it in more detail after a while.
