One editor discovered a new trick to enable improved texting on almost any Android smartphone. The only prerequisite is to be able to start the beta of Google Messages, and to follow the instructions of the tutorial.
RCS still hasn’t activated on your smartphone? There may be a solution: a rediter has just shared a tip to install RCS on almost any Android smartphone. This is based on the latest beta version of Android Messages, an application called Android Launcher, and clearing the cache of certain applications.
How to install RCS on your Android smartphone
For that :
- Disable WiFi on your smartphone to force it to use operator data
- Make sure you’re using Google Messages to send / receive text messages
- Go to the Play Store and search for Google Messages
- In the application page scroll down and click on Join Beta
- Go to another page in the Play Store and return to Google Messages : you should be offered an update
- Restart your smartphone
- Go to Settings> Applications
- On Samsung smartphones, delete the cache data associated with the Carrier Services application (if the application is not in the list, install it from the Play Store)
- Delete cache data from Google Messages beta
- Install the Activity Launcher app from the Play Store
- Open Activity Launcher
- At the top of the window, click the down arrow and select All Activities
- Scroll down the list of apps to Android Messages
- In Android Messages, touch Set RCS Flags
- Touch ACS url and enter the following address: http://rcs-acs-prod-us.sandbox.google.com/
- Tap OTP Pattern and select the only option from the list
- Tap Apply
- Go to Settings> Applications> Google Messages
- Force stop the application
- Open Google Messages
